John's Editorial comments:
NOTES: You will notice that 'most all these songs ROCK. #3. I love both the original and Mr. Thorogood's version. George is one of the greatest live acts ever, while Bo is truely an original. Both are still doin' it!
#6. These guys are from New York and recorded this on the Apple label. John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang back-up on some songs on the LP and Lennon does some lead guitar riffs on one song. I honestly think if Dan Videtich hears this song, he will add it to his hit list...honest) While not real well known, this LP was purchased locally, years ago. Came out in '72.
#7. What can I say: surf music is Rock music and these guys are the best around
#10. Aaah: Little Richard, need I say more? Great sax solo mid-flight. But then, the sax was THE solo instrument in early rock tunes. (I believe the sax man is Grady Gaines; still alive and well)

10.My Morning Song - The Black Crowes
Dan's Editorial comments:
I must say that forming this list sucked! It was nearly impossible
to narrow it down to 10. I'll bet my 10 would be different in 6
months. I'll bet my order would be different in two. My opinions
have been thwarted by too much airplay on the radio for many great
songs. I think only two of mine are played on a somewhat regular
basis. Another thing is---what consists rock & roll? what
qualifies? If we're talking about favorite songs loosely based on
rock & roll, the music it came from, and the music it gave birth to
maybe 2 songs would stay on my list, my top two obviously. Anyhoo,
here goes---enjoy.

Todd's editorial comments: Won't Get Fooled Again is regarded by many as The Who's greatest song . I agree but
I believe Quadrophenia is clearly their best album. In addition I think The Real Me and 5:15
might be better songs than Won't Get Fooled Again in the context of the album but despite that bit of pompous rambling I will stick with my pick for #1 - Won't Get Fooled
Again. In conclusion I used to think Bob Dylan was over rated but I was wrong and I used to think The Doors were great and I was wrong again. Maybe I should break out that Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack and give it a listen again.I didn't see it on anyone's list for some reason...Go Figure.
Hio, nice site you got there. Here's my top10 list if you wanna look!

Bryan's editorial comments: You may find I left out a lot from the 80s and 90s. That's because the music was not as creative/good as music from the 60s-70s. I know I'm biased and will upset many people by announcing that I don't care for Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, or Bruce Springsteen. But I would add "Little Wing" (Vaughn's version), "Eruption" (Van Halen, great guitarist), and "Samba Pa Ti" (Santana). All instrumentals but worth the listen.

I'm going to define "rock" pretty narrowly, which means leaving out some of
my absolute favorites, who are too pop ("Pet Sounds"-era Beach Boys, the
Supremes, ABBA, the Beatles) or too country (Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard,
Willie Nelson) or too much in the rap vein (yeah, Eminem might have made
the list otherwise)... I'll also confess that some of the other lists on
your site helped inspire and prod my memory:
"Let's Spend the Night Together," "Bitch," "Happy" -- the Rolling Stones
"Dazed and Confused" -- Led Zepplin
"Spirit in the Sky" -- Norman Greenbaum
"Motorpsycho Nightmare" -- Bob Dylan
"Sweet Child O' Mine" -- Guns 'n' Roses
"White Light/White Heat" -- Velvet Underground
"Jessica" -- the Allman Brothers
"Once Bitten, Twice Shy" -- Great White
"20th Century Boy" -- Marc Bolan and T.Rex
"Fire" -- Jimi Hendrix
"Kiss Off" -- Violent Femmes
"Cinnamon Girl" -- Neil Young
"Lithium" -- Nirvana
... and in a bow to contemporary music: "Last Night" -- The Strokes
1) Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody- The pinnacle of what rock music can be, and how rock music can be inserted and crossed with so many other genres and come out absolutely brilliant.
2) Verve- Bittersweet Symphony- The most beautiful 6 minutes ever put to music. Inspiring, anthemic, and absolutely, absolutely necessary.
3) Beach Boys- Good Vibrations- The best composition in the most brilliant strech of rock composition (Brian Wilson in 1965-1967). It's just really really awesome.
4) Belle And Sebastian- Lazy Line Painter Jane- Probably the least known on this list...the word masterpiece falls far too short of describing this song. Outdoes the 1960s 30 years later.
5) Beatles- A Day In The Life- One of the greatest compositions by the best band the world has ever seen.
6) Bob Dylan- Like A Rolling Stone- I hesitated to include this because everyone does, but with lines like "You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you", how could you not?
7) Led Zeppelin- Stairway To Heaven- Saying anything to justify this song's selection is pretty silly.
8) Velvet Underground- What Goes On- Anyone who wants to form a rock band must listen to this song and only hope to emulate its perfection.
9) Radiohead- Paranoid Android- If more bands threw crazy songs like this out as singles, then the world would be a better place.
10) Pulp- Common People- A paean to the working class. Isn't that what rock is all about anyway?
1. Bruce Springsteen- Thunder Road (Not "the Boss", "The God" of rock and
roll)
2. Counting Crows- Round Here (Rock and Roll's last great band)
3. The Police- Dont stand so close to me ( the greatest drummer in rock)
4. The Rolling Stones- Paint it Black( Everything they did was brilliant)
5. Weezer- The Good Life ( The album "Pinkerton is completely amazing)

7. The Kinks- Lola ( just good fun)

the ruff)
10- The Hooters- All you Zombies (great great song, by a forgotten group)

I must say the top ten? Kinda hard to even try and begin to think of my favorite top ten but I'll try. This is in absolutely NO particular order.
Nine Inch Nails, Hurt, Reptile, The becoming, Closer (of course), Piggy, The downward spiral, Suck, and Head like a hole.
U2, Lemon (possibly my favorite), Where the streets..., Still haven't found..., Red hill mining town, and well the just about all of U2, except for elevation.
Depeche Mode...Personal Jesus, Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, Blue Dress, People are People.
Inxs...Need you Tonight
Alice in Chains - Grind, Down in a hole, Got me Wrong, I never really liked "Roster", Heaven Beside You, Nutshell, Don't Follow, Rotten Apple.
I know many people don't like Tears For Fears but, the album Elemental which was released in 93, is absolutely a masterpiece and was horribly underrated.
If you like music in general this CD is a Gem and I would suggest getting it. It is nothing like the TFF of old.
Back to the music...
OK. Just bands, I'm getting tired.
Talking Heads, Led Zep, Beatles, TOOL!, Heart, Live, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Bob and the Wailers, (another Album that was never really appreciated) UB40..."Signing off", this is their first and best. Bands I hate or dislike.
StainedŠwhat the F#$^, IncubusŠI can tolerate this crap only for short periods at a time, SublimeŠNow I'm not arguing that his music was bad, I even own a CD and I enjoy it sometimes, but he was a Dumb As$, a first class Dumb As$ at that, Kotten Mouth KingsŠSeriously folks. Hey Durst...you should keep Rollin Rollin Rollin...right off a God Dam Cliff! Korn...Yeup...Korn Sucks, Hair Bands of the 80's.
Rock MusicŠWell good rock Music for that matter ended with the fall of grunge. Seems we've had a couple of heads pop up with the likes of Tool and others but it surely isn't what it used to be.
